Bowling Green’s board of trustees voted today to name Carol Cartwright president of the university.

Cartwright, who served as president of Kent State for 15 years, retired in June 2006, but was named interim president of Bowling Green in June 2008. In an interview shortly after her appointment, Cartwright said she was not interested in a permanent term.

John Harbal, chair of Bowling Green’s board of trustees, said in a press release from the university that the Bowling Green community wanted an experienced leader to guide it through the “choppy waters” that are ahead for the state of Ohio and higher education.

He said he was grateful that Cartwright was willing to suspend her retirement another two years.

Cartwright will be Bowling Green’s 11th and first woman president. She succeeds Sidney Ribeau, who is now president of Howard University.
