The United Way of Portage County is holding its fifth annual 5K race July 5, the morning of the annual Kent Heritage Festival.

There will be a 5K, 10K and a 1 mile Fun Walk. All races begin at the Masonic Temple on the corner of Mantua and West Main streets in Kent.

Steve Kleiber, president of the United Way of Portage County, hopes to beat last year’s participant number of 350 and sets the goal at 400 runners.

Davey Tree Company is sponsoring the event. Huntington Bank is also sponsoring the event and donating cash prizes to the winners of the races.

There will be cash prizes for each first male and female to finish first in each of the 11 age categories. Free T-shirts will be given to every preregistered runner, while supplies last.

Preregistration lasts through July 3 and can be accessed online at www.uwportage.org or
