U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan presented a workforce development grant of almost $240,000 at the Trumbull campus yesterday.

The appropriation will fund the Northeast Ohio Advanced Manufacturing Institute, which is a program that focuses on job training for regional employees.

Lisa Goetsch, director of workforce development at the Trumbull campus, said the “entirely employer-driven” program will determine the needs of businesses’ employee skill sets.

The program will provide “quick and cost-effective training” on a customized basis, she said. It will profile jobs to determine areas of concern and work to develop future skill sets.

Goetsch said the grant isn’t going to the Trumbull campus, but it is going toward assessments for employees in the Mahoning Valley that will take place at the campus. The grant will offset the cost of training for businesses in the region.

“Congressman Ryan was instrumental at earmarking this money for us and recognizing this very big need in the region,” she said.
