‘Anatomy’, ‘Model’ slowly flatlining

“Grey’s Anatomy”

ABC, Thursdays at 9

According to Wikipedia, jumping the shark is defined as “the tipping point at which a TV series is deemed to have passed its peak, or has introduced plot twists that are illogical in terms of everything that has preceded them.”

Sound familiar?

Or did you readily accept the final third of that three-part “Grey’s Anatomy” event where the ferry wrecked as just another episode? I sure didn’t.

“Grey’s Anatomy” has always been a show about choices and how they can affect your life, however unfair it may turn out in the end. So seeing the entire staff of Seattle Grace stop dead in its tracks, completely ignore all the dead and wounded from the first two hours of the event and concentrate entirely on bringing a dead Meredith back to life for over an hour, I was calling foul.

I was also screaming at the screen when Meredith woke up in that stupid “phantom hospital” that had Denny, the bomb guy and a couple other patients I don’t remember walking around trying to tell her.well.something. Why was that necessary, and how could they create any suspense about Meredith’s dire straits at all since she is the star of the show? Throw George or Izzie in the bay and then I’ll be glued to the screen.

But perhaps the most gag-worthy moment of the hour was when Meredith’s mother died and hugged Meredith on her way to heaven. The scene was unnecessary, illogical and robs the show of any credibility it once had as a hospital drama.

The point is that “Grey’s Anatomy” is on thin ice, and if Izzie stops for a moment while acting like she’s “feeling Denny’s presence” again when the show returns tonight, I think there may be chunks blown.

“America’s Next Top Model”

The CW, Wednesdays at 8

Well, at least the photoshoots are better this season.

I’m not sure about much else, because none of the models’ personalities are really popping yet, and Tyra is still acting just as crazy as ever, but after putting up with the Fashion Witch, Zero-G and wobbly runways over water, these fashion shoots are great!

“Top Model” has always been about excess, but at this point the entire show has become a bloated mess that needs to get back to the basics, and that would be modeling.

It should not be about what type of house the models are living in this season. Remember in season.pardon me.cycle one when Tyra made the girls stay in a tiny hotel room because that was what she went through as a model?

It should not be about people screaming at one another because they are staying on the phone too long. It should not be about Payless shoes or high school fashion shows.

It should be about giving these contestants a strong foundation to build a modeling career on, and “ANTM” has, sadly, forgotten that fact somewhere between Tyra’s outbursts and arm flab.
