Students can try free vegan food today

Kent State University Dining Services will be hosting a free vegan food taste testing today on campus.

From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in front of the Kent Market I on the first floor of the Student Center, students will be able to try a variety of vegan food. It will later move to Eastway, from 4 to 7 p.m.

The taste testing will include foods from the vegan product line currently distributed at Kent Markets I and II in the Student Center.

Dining Services Director Andrea Spandonis said the line has a very Mediterranean/Middle Eastern flavor, with foods ranging from chickpea salad to Lebanese pickles.

The product line was brought in over the past year to meet student demands for more vegetarian friendly food and to determine what students like and dislike, Spandonis said.

“I think a lot of people don’t try the products because they don’t know what it is, but they end up liking it when they do try the food,” said Cathy Kurtz, unit manager for Kent Markets I and II.

There will be a little bit of everything for students to try, Kurtz said.
