Fire alarm at Centennial Court B

Emergency crews arrived at Centennial Court B Tuesday morning around 3 a.m. prepared to fight flames, but were instead met with a little of their own medicine.

Someone had set off a fire extinguisher in the first floor hallway of the residence hall, triggering the alarm at 3:10 a.m., Sgt. Joseph Hendry of Kent State Police said.

Hendry said there was no fire, and damage from the extinguisher’s powdery fire-fighting chemical was nominal.

Sophomore education major Chris Johnson said he was sleeping when the alarm sounded, waking him up. He and other evacuees spent about 20 minutes outside waiting to return to their rooms.

Hendry said police do not know who fired the extinguisher at this time.
