Police continue investigation of Susan’s robbery

Susan’s Coffee and Tea on East Main Street was robbed Saturday, and police are still looking for an unidentified suspect seen in the getaway car by a witness.

The driver and the man who allegedly committed the robbery, is in jail in lieu of a $50,000 bond, according to court records.

William M. Holt, 60, of Cleveland, allegedly entered the back door of Susan’s Saturday and stole money from the safe and took a cashbox.

Daniel McBride, 21, was almost run over by a getaway car, according to police reports.

McBride, sophomore visual communication and design major and employee at Susan’s, ran after the robber.

“I just saw him walking with the lockbox and wondered what he was doing,” McBride said.

McBride said he saw two people in the car, and the driver attempted to run him over. McBride said it wasn’t frightening.

“I really didn’t feel like I was risking my life,” McBride said. “I didn’t see a weapon or anything. I was just in shock that it was happening.”

Holt was arrested by Kent Police in Streetsboro less than an hour after the robbery. Holt was the only person in the vehicle. The passenger McBride said he saw in the vehicle with Holt has not yet been found or identified.

The money was not recovered, and the amount stolen was not recorded in the police report.

Employees of Susan’s have been advised by the police department to not comment on the case since the investigation is ongoing.

Holt is charged with robbery. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Friday at 9:15 a.m. at the Kent City Municipal Court.
