Kent State wrestling started off its 2005-2006 season with the third annual Kent State Wrestling Blue-Gold Intra-squad Meet on Friday night in the M.A.C. Center.

The Blue squad won eight of the 13 matches, totaling a 28-15 victory over the Gold squad.

“I think the kids competed very hard,” Kent State coach Jim Andrassy said in Friday’s press release. “We had a good crowd and that makes it a lot more fun to get out on the mat and see the support.”

The meet, which was scored in dual-meet format, started out with Paul Hammond’s 7-5 victory for the Gold squad over Patrick Lanham in the 149-pound weight class.

The meet split between blue and gold victories until the fifth match when freshman Cory Maier defeated James Reynolds with a 12-4 score in the 165-pound weight class.

The Blue squad then put up six victories in a row before redshirt junior Alex Camargo claimed a 4-2 Gold squad victory over redshirt sophomore Aaron Miller.

Camargo was ranked in the No. 1 spot in the Mid-American Conference preseason poll for the 184-pound weight class.

Jason Spencer closed out the meet with an 8-5 Gold win over Clayton Stark.

The season will officially start for the Flashes when they compete at the SUNY-Brockport/Oklahoma Gold Showcase on Nov. 12 in Brockport, N.Y.
