Volleyball ends MAC season with loss

The Kent State volleyball team ended its season on the road last night, falling in the first round of the Mid-American Conference tournament in three games against Bowling Green with scores of 30-22, 30-19 and 30-20.

With the win, Bowling Green (18-13, 9-8 MAC) advances to the MAC quarterfinals Friday at Toledo.

Kent State (9-20, 4-13 MAC) only took the lead in game one and was within two points of Bowling Green at 22-20.

Bowling Green took eight of the following 10 points for the win. Despite a .361 hitting average, the Flashes couldn’t compete with the Falcons’ .629 hitting average this game.

Although Bowling Green didn’t post high hitting averages in the 2nd and 3rd game, Kent State was hampered by .156 and .125 averages. The Flashes also saw 14 of its 18 hitting errors in these final games.

The Falcons finished with 12 blocks, while Kent State completed only one.

Senior outside hitter Danielle Holt and junior Sarah Wilber led Kent State’s offense, posting 12 and 10 kills, respectively. Senior setter Anne Butts guided the Flashes with 22 assists, while Anja Knabe-Paulsen contributed 18 assists.

Defensively, sophomore libero Laura Jensen registered a match-best 17 digs.

The Flashes will end their season next weekend at the A-10 MAC Thanksgiving Classic. They will face Dayton at 7:30 p.m. Friday and complete the tournament, and season, against Xavier at 1 p.m. Saturday.
