Kent State volleyball picked up its first win, but added two more losses to its record in the Barker GMC Classic in Normal, Ill., over the weekend.

The Flashes (1-3) opened up the tournament with a 3-0 loss to Illinois State (3-1) on Friday. They lost 20-30 in the first game, 27-30 in the second and 23-30 in the final game. The Flashes did have 48 kills, compared to Illinois State’s 38 but recorded 14 service errors. Senior outside hitter Danielle Holt led the Flashes with 15 kills, seven digs and two service aces.

The Flashes began the final day of the tournament with a 3-0 win over Western Illinois (0-3) on Saturday. Kent State won 31-29, 30-24 and 30-23 as Holt and fellow senior Anne Butts led the Flashes with Holt’s 17 kills and 12 digs and Butts’ 29 assists and 12 digs.

Unfortunately, the momentum didn’t carry over into the final game of the tournament.

In a 3-1 loss to undefeated Western Kentucky (4-0), Holt led the Flashes once again with 15 kills and 14 digs. Redshirt freshman Ashley Feutz posted 10 kills for the Flashes and Butts added a team-high 30 assists.

On the defensive end, junior Sarah Wilber led the Flashes with 12 blocks and sophomore Laura Jensen put up a match-best 20 digs.

The Flashes return home to host the Kent State Invitational beginning this weekend. Kent State squares off against Dartmouth at 12:30 p.m. on Friday.
