The return of warm weather means many different things, including the return of the electric SPIN scooters across campus.

While the scooters are available for use during the winter, they do not appear as popular as they are in the warmer months.

The SPIN scooters launched on campus in March 2022. In addition to the 100 scooters available, there are 100 electric bikes available as well. They can be used in what is called a GeoZone, which covers all of campus and extends as far as Mike’s Place and the Field House.

However, reviews from students and visitors are mixed.

Olivia McClelland, a freshman integrated social studies student, said she has only taken one ride on a scooter.

Although she said riding it was fun and useful, “I do remember thinking that I didn’t like paying for it,” she said.

The units equipped with GPS cost $1 to unlock and 29 cents per minute. There are also passes available for an hour, 24 hours or for a month.

“I don’t think they’re that bad on pricing,” said Collin Sanderson, who was visiting a friend on campus.

Nicholas Gullett, a weekly campus visitor, said they are a “good way to get around.”

To use the service, students can download the SPIN mobile app.
