A Ravenna fire chief tells Hannah Fuller, at left sitting on the step, that a warming center is open at the Trinity Lutheran Church down the street. Fuller lives in a seventh-floor apartment at University Inn on South Water Street in Kent and had to evacuate during a fire this morning in an apartment three doors down from hers. At far left is Colin Gray, who lives with her in the apartment. They were both worried about the status of their two cats.

Chuck Ayers had just stepped inside Taylor Hall when the National Guard started shooting at students on May 4, 1970. Ayers was a cartoonist for the Daily Kent Stater, whose offices were inside the building where the May 4 Museum is now located. May 4, 2022

Avalyn Lund-Goldstein stands vigil inside the memorial space where Sandra Scheuer was shot in the Prentice Hall parking lot by Ohio National Guardsmen at Kent State University on May 4, 1970. The coronavirus forced the university to move the 50th anniversary commemoration events to virtual formats, but a small group of marchers still walked across campus as they have for 50 years since the shooting. Following the march, four people held candles in the spaces where each student fell.

An excavator run by Pat McCorkle, who works for Butcher & Son Excavating in Akron, knocks down the front facade of the house at 132 S. Lincoln St. in Kent. The house was the first of several to come down as construction began Wednesday, Aug. 8, along the path of the Kent State Esplanade extension.
