The Kent State field hockey (8-12, 5-2 Mid-American Conference) team’s season ended Saturday after losing, 5-3, to Miami (OH) (15-6, 6-0 MAC) in the Mid-American Conference Championship game.

The RedHawks broke through in the 13th minute on a goal by Paula Portugal that was deflected by Kent State junior goalie Mary Crumlish, who would go on to have 11 saves on the day.

In the 20th minute, Miami (OH) answered again when Kenzie Peterson scored on a rebound. It was Peterson’s sixth goal of the season.

The Flashes scored their first goal of the game in the 33rd minute from Emma Bressler with an assist by senior forward Courtney Weise.

In the 39th minute, the Redhawks scored again when Berlie took her own rebound and scored for her seventh goal of the season.

In the 41st minute, Weise passed the ball to Bressler on a penalty corner, and she scored her second goal of the game. The goals gave her seven for the season.

Lexi Silver and Noor Breedijk both scored their second goals of the season in the 43rd and 49th minutes for the Redhawks, securing the win for Miami (OH).

The Flashes would go on to score one more goal by Pippa Best with an assist from Bressler, but it proved to be for naught.
