The Kent State field hockey team started its season over the weekend, taking home two wins against Michigan State University and Villanova University. The 2-0 marks the best start for Kent State since the 1995 season.

In a 3-1 win over the Spartans, the Flashes received contributions from junior Shannon Talbot, sophomore Helen Harper and freshman Laila Richter, who scored in the season opener. The Flashes led in shots (20-11) and corners (5-2).

The Flashes followed up Friday’s performance with a 4-1 victory over Villanova the next day.

Senior Krysti Lober and redshirt-junior Alison Harmatz each scored two goals in the win as Kent State put together another dominant performance outshooting the Wildcats, 22-6.

The Flashes will travel to California next weekend to take on the University of California, Stanford and the University of the Pacific.

Their competition against the Golden Bears will start Friday, Sept. 2, at 9 p.m.
