Director of Student Advancement Candidate

Q: What is your platform?

A: “As Director of Student Advancement:

I will push for three major goals:

1. Advocating for students’ interest

2. Awareness of student services around campus

3. Clarity and transparency

As soon as I am elected I will:

⁃ Submit a piece of legislation titled “Commitment to Transparency” to the

undergraduate student body and apply it to the campus.

– Inspire students to create a culture of change, inclusivity, and diversity in welcoming to

all undergraduate students to Kent State University.

⁃ Make sure that every student and student organization knows that USG is a resource

available to them.

– Help advance and strengthen mental health resources on campus.

– Ensure that student conduct hearings are fair and continue to be fair for students.

⁃ Create the “Committee on Student Empowerment” to advance the students’ interests.

⁃ Advocate for students’ needs and increase the advancement of student life.”

Q: Why should people vote for you?

A: “As Senator for the Residence Halls:

– Devoted to improving residence life for students, creating a “home away from home”

environment.

– Pushed heavy on RA food security, advocacy, diversity, inclusion, and equity.

– Discussed with Ohio lawmakers to help increase mental health resources.

– Advocated for students’ sustainability and accessibility concerns.

– Helped inspire creativity with the Student Artwork Initiative.

– Served on numerous USG committees.

I have the experience to take on tasks that need to be addressed and advocate for student’s interests every step of the way.”

Q: What changes are you looking to enact?

A: “One topic that I think about and have discussed previously is student accessibility on this campus. I would like to work with the facilities management team to make buildings more accessible for those who may be in a wheelchair/power chairs. It seems to me that it would be a lot of extra work for people who use a chair to get into certain buildings (Bowman Hall is one specific building). I also think student voice is incredibly important in any process and decision that is made on this campus. According to Kent State’s strategic roadmap, our number one priority is “Students First.” We must hear what the students have to say and what stakeholders will be affected in the campus decision-making process.”
